Keynote Abstract:
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is the most popular personality test in the world. First conceived in the 1920s by the mother-daughter team of Katherine Briggs and Isabel Briggs Myers, Myers-Briggs soon took on a life of its own, reaching from the boardrooms of New York to London, Zurich, Cape Town, Melbourne, and Tokyo, until it could be found just as easily in elementary schools, nunneries, and wellness retreats as in the executive coaching sessions of today. Drawing on the strange and extraordinary history of one indicator, this talk explores both the utopian and the dystopian aspects of personality testing. It shows how the language of type has infiltrated our workplaces, our relationships, and our innermost lives.

Session Abstract: The global landscape is experiencing the impact of volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity firsthand. Each of us experiences adversity in some form or another that makes us feel out of control. But neuroplasticity offers us strong solutions to take charge of our thinking regardless of the circumstances in which we may find ourselves. The neuroscience of thinking can be understood through the process of neuroplasticity. This process describes how the brain can change, recover, learn and be rewired. During this presentation, the presenter will illustrate how the science of neuroplasticity can help people rewire their brains to think in ways that will help them develop an agile mindset and the cognitive flexibility necessary to cope with disruptive change.
Presenter(s) :Silvia Tassarotti, MCC and Frances Penafort
Session Abstract: In this session we will explore insights from the work of the ICF Thought Leadership Institute (TLI), a think-tank of collective wisdom, aspiring to build and maintain the most comprehensive and highest-quality body of knowledge on the science, art, and practice of coaching. We will focus in particular on the future of work, education and coaching sharing some of the work done and some relevant researches.
Presenter: Robert Biswas-Diener, PCC
Session Abstract: For the past 15 years, there has been a steady increase of attention to the ways that positive psychological science might inform coaching. Unfortunately, many of the most common uses of positive psychology are heavily prescriptive interventions that run counter to the ethos of client-centered coaching. In this presentation, positive psychology coaching pioneer, Dr. Robert Biswas-Diener, will share his thoughts on this topic. He will outline how his thinking has evolved over time, including new, favorable approaches and old approaches to be discarded. The session will also discuss aspects of positive psychology coaching that distinguish it from other types of coaching. At the heart of his message is the idea that it is time to re-cast positive psychology coaching in a new and more sophisticated light. Just as positive psychological science has evolved through so-called second and third waves, Dr. Biswas-Diener will call for coaches to adopt more sophistication. He will focus on ethics, tools, scientific literacy and well-being as main points of consideration.
Presenter: Carrie Arnold, PhD, MCC
Session Abstract: Coaching is an abundant field born from many different schools of thought, scholarship, research and theory. This presentation sorts the science of coaching into six distinct categories that inform and widen a person’s understanding of what it means to be a professional coach. Learn the overview of theories, models, tools and scholarship behind: a) skillful coaching b) foundational theories that underpin coaching c) theories that inform our work with adults d) what it means to be an instrument of self as a coach e) contextual theories that create coaching niche and expertise f) how scholarship and research continue to evolve and deepen the field. Having a sense of these broad categories can create a road map for coaches and their professional development that incorporates the ICF Core Competencies in new and expansive ways. This presentation is also an invitation for those who are eager to contribute to this field in new and unique ways; attending this session will provide insight into areas that need additional focus and coaching contribution.
Presenter: Ann Betz, PCC
Session Abstract: More and more, coaches and organizations are wondering if there is scientific validation for what we do. And while the profession as a whole did not emerge from a scientific exploration of what’s effective in human development, work over the past ten years has produced interesting correlations about the impact of coaching, both on the brain and individual behavior. In this lively and entertaining session, neuroscience and coaching expert Ann Betz will walk through the neuroscience connections to and validations of the Updated ICF Core Competencies, sharing stories, examples and research studies that help us ground our amazing profession in the most current, valid and reliable neuroscience understanding. We’ll explore the “Big Four” of coaching as foundational to the competencies, as well as some specific and critical additional competency aspects, including: The role of neuroplasticity—and how the competencies help us “amp up” our coaching impact; The importance of creating a “toward” state in the brain—and how classic coaching skills naturally lead to this; The power of integration, and how coaching helps us identify and pull together multiple aspects of ourselves—and why this matters; The impact of stress—and how coaching helps us stay in the powerful, productive “just right” zone; and The power of relationship and the coach’s presence—and how cultural sensitivity, ethics and confidentiality play a critical role.
Presenter: Verity Symcox, MSc
Session Abstract: The intersection between coaching and therapy can be a grey area, full of complexity and uncertainty for many coaches. Client mental health and the determination of their psychological functioning are central to ensuring coaching practice remains ethical. However, the prevalence of mental illness is now rising at an exponential rate due to COVID-19, to the extent that the World Health Organization (WHO) is predicting a forthcoming global mental health pandemic. Coaches are now increasingly likely to encounter clients with poor mental health and this session provides attendees with an opportunity to explore some of the complexities which may arise when coaching gets close to the boundary between coaching and therapy. Attendees will gain an understanding of coaching situations that are better suited for therapy. This session also provides an opportunity for coaches to explore the potential emotional effects on themselves when working close to the coaching/therapy boundary.
Presenter(s): Pete Berridge, PCC and Jen Ostrich, PCC
Session Abstract: Today’s workforce says, “Coach me, don’t criticize me.” This session is an invitation to shift your mindset and introduce you to how positive psychology and building a system of support can change the feedback experience. Participants will learn the language and approach for more effective and energizing developmental feedback. Unfortunately, the way feedback is gathered and delivered in 360-style reviews is broken. Intentions are compromised, context is lacking and all too often feedback is focused on what’s not working instead of identifying what the individual could do to excel. Additionally, feedback systems lack ongoing support from stakeholders – the “people system” – to help the person successfully grow and change. This session addresses feedback shortfalls and shifts participants’ mindset so that feedback becomes far more constructive and enjoyable for both those giving and receiving. With a look at positive psychology and system support, as well as strengths, solution focused coaching and defining desired outcomes, participants will leave with more energy and ideas for transforming feedback in their lives and organizations. An individual exercise and demo will change the way coaches gather and offer feedback in the future.
Presenter: Michaela Buck, PCC
Session Abstract: Studies assume that 90% of people are exposed to traumatic stress during their lifetime. Thus, coaches may also be confronted with the fact that the client may bring a stressful event into an existing coaching process. The following questions become relevant: Why do some events have a stronger effect than others? What do you do with those affected? As a coach, how can I deal with such a situation and support my client as best as possible? Coaching is not therapy, but trauma can exist in a coaching session. Therefore, a coach needs to understand how to handle trauma in coaching. This session will provide tools to do so, as well as discuss the limitations of coaching and the process of referring a client to therapy.
Presenter: David Papini, PCC
Session Abstract: As humans, when we learn to coach, we tend to have some basic unconscious and hard-wired assumptions. One is that our brain will cooperate with us in embodying a coaching mindset. In this session we’ll learn that we cannot take our brain and emotions for granted because learning to coach involves deep changes in the way we perceive reality. Our brain has its own agenda and we cannot assume it will change just because we learn some active learning techniques, ground our presence and increase our awareness. In the session we’ll see that emotional intelligence is way overrated when it comes to develop our Core Competencies in a way that proves effective within a coaching session, especially considering the recent affective neuroscience research. To help our coaching client and ourselves succeed, we have to find ways to partner with our reluctant brains: if we are able to do that, we’ll tap the energy needed by the coaching process. In this session, we’ll explore some basic technique to achieve this.
Presenter: Colleen Lightbody, MCC
Session Abstract: Mindfulness enables both the coach and the client to transform their way of doing and being in a visible and tangible way. A unique model of mindfulness is presented as the basis for a process that supports personal and professional leadership transformation called – this model is called The Way of the Mindful Warrior. The process requires coaches to deeply reflect and challenge themselves to awareness and mastery. Using neuroscience and research, scientific and academic rigor underpins a practical and experiential process of facilitating mastery in your coaching practice and enabling your clients to become masters of their own destinies instead of a slave to a conditioned narrative. UNDERSTAND Mindfulness as a holistic concept involving head, heart, hands and spirit. WEAVE the science of the brain with the psychology of the mind. ENGAGE with a unique model of mindfulness embracing Eastern and Western perspectives – Secular and Sacred. CREATE sustainable change for yourself as a coach and for your clients through practical application and mindset shifts.
Presenter(s): Jim Gavin, MCC, Betsy Thomas and Nicolo Francesco Bernardi, ACC
Session Abstract: Is coaching mostly about asking questions? How often do coaches give advice? Do coaches ever hijack a client’s agenda? This session will offer factual descriptions of how coaches intervene – intentionally or not – in their sessions. As well, it describes how different categories of intervention may impact relationship qualities and clients’ goal attainment. Based on an exhaustive analysis of 150 coaching sessions coupled with ratings of each session by coaches and clients, we have been able to graphically represent what coaches actually do, as well as indicating the impacts of their actions.

Session Abstract: Globally, it is estimated that there were approximately 71,000 coach practitioners in 2019 who collectively generated $2.849 billion USD in annual revenue. That number is rapidly increasing. As the profession continues to grow, it is imperative that coaching professionals address the issue of accountability. In fact, when it comes to measuring the impact of coaching, no metric is more important to senior leaders than ROI. Many studies have indicated that almost all coaches stated that they “know” coaching has been effective, but the evidence to support this is mostly anecdotal. According to the ICF’s 2019 Global Coaching Study, measuring the impact of coaching was considered to be a challenge of the profession. Our session will help you overcome this challenge with limited resources. One of the myths about ROI is that it is expensive and too complex. The reality is that it is logical, simple and easy process with cost saving opportunities along the way. Most coaches have the available resources to make it work. You’ll learn 12 easy steps process for measuring the impact of coaching. The Process will show you how to : – Isolate the effects of coaching; – Convert business impact to money – Tabulate coaching costs – Calculate ROI – Identify intangible benefits of coaching

It would be extremely easy for a coach to spend years doing nothing but studying the field and still have much to study. But how does this all affect their business? Session Abstract: Each year Organizations invest more than $300 billion USD in talent development with coaching and training. The ability to successfully land business directly with organizations can make all the difference in both the number of people you impact as well as your revenues. Not only is there an abundance of need for coaching in organizations, there is also a personal best approach for each coach. The objective of this session is to provide all coaches with access to and a clear understanding of the strategies that really work to land and deliver in this huge market segment so that all interested in doing so may know how.

Presenter(s): Linda McLoughlin, MCC, MBA and Catherine Tanneau, MCC
Session Abstract: In this session, Linda and Catherine draw on the latest coaching research and current practices in organizations to explore the emerging role of professional coaches as DEI ambassadors and role models. Learn how a coaching culture can boost cross-cultural awareness and competence, and how external and internal coaches can use their own presence and partnering at the system level with leaders to create this. Coaching skills as part of the leadership toolkit can support the development of cross-cultural savviness by increasing awareness of self and others; using empathy to deepen rapport and trust; being present, open and curious in interactions and by listening actively to create interpersonal connection and understanding. The move to virtual workplaces and the associated shift in talent acquisition post-COVID presents a real challenge in managing workforces and teams with greater diversity than ever before. The remote workplace means we can hire remotely also. Also rising social consciousness on issues of ethnicity and social justice have carried over to workplaces and leaders need to role model authentic inclusion. Coaching skills used consistently by an organization’s leadership will bring DEI policies and procedures to life and ensure leaders walk the talk. This helps to become an employer of choice and retain good talent.

Session Abstract: The ICF Core Competencies are more than a guideline, they show steps of analysis and reflection that enable a brilliant coaching process. In western socialization, we learn to trust analysis and devalue reflective approaches. This makes it even more difficult to achieve meaningful self-reflection and insights with clients that can bring real and transforming changes in behavior patterns. In this session, Christine Kranz makes clear the difference between reflection and analysis and how the ICF Core Competencies can be powerfully applied to each. Especially in these challenging times, reflection competence is essential. Let yourself be surprised – clarifying, profound, effective.
Presenter: Tunçel Gulsoy, MCC
Session Abstract: In addition to being a creative music and art form, jazz offers many inspirations for the coaching profession. Are you ready to travel into uncharted territories to see coaching from a totally different perspective? In this session, we’ll explore this relatively new genre of music and how it has developed over time. In doing so, we’ll examine how another relatively new concept – the coaching profession – could or should develop in the near future.
Presenter: Josh Alwitt, PCC
Session Abstract: Coaching often uses goals as a way for the coach and leader to focus their attention and gauge progress – yet clients are often hesitant to commit to fixed goals amidst today’s extreme uncertainty and change. This calls for new ways to use goals in coaching relationships, namely learning goals that are meant to evolve over the course of the coaching relationship. I conducted a research study to explore how a more fluid coaching approach can help leaders grow in volatile, rapidly changing environments. The model to be explored is evolving learning goal coaching where “evolving” refers to the idea that the goal itself should change over time, and “learning goal” refers to goals where the aim is to learn something new rather than meet a fixed target. The study explores how this approach can help leaders to reach their goals and grow personally during times of great uncertainty and change. 10 participants were coached, interviewed and surveyed over a 4-month period and the findings analyzed for patterns that will help other coaches to use this approach.
Presenter: Sackeena Gordon-Jones, PHD, MCC
Session Abstract:One of the biggest challenges of the 21st-century is the lack of cultural intelligence. This is impacting every part of our Society, playing out in the public square, and within organizations, teams, as well as, coaching relationships. Yes, coaches are not immune to this. Coach training programs have the unique opportunity, and responsibility to prepare coaches for this challenge. As coach educators and program developers, we have the privilege to cultivate the skillset, mindset, and the toolset of the coaches we train. This is easier said than done. To do this requires creating the equivalent experience for our trainees. Cultural Intelligence is the key to creating a coach training program that is more diverse, equitable, inclusive and just, throughout the entire lifecycle of our students. Developing cultural intelligence and equitable practices requires humility and courage; and we, the coach educators, the Program developers, need to go first. We need to ask ourselves: how do we honor the diverse experiences, perspectives and unique identities in our approach to attract, develop, launch and mentor coaches. How can we reimagine coach training so that the culturally competent coach emerges?
Presenter(s): Ben Koh, MCC, Alina Menon, MCC and Sarah Devereaux, MCC
Session Abstract: The demand for online education continues to increase rapidly. Modern technological developments have introduced e-learning and subsequently and permanently altered education. Globally, there are millions of e-learners who identify with different social, cultural and educational circumstances. However, online education is not meant for everyone as it is unlike traditional classroom learning. This increased demand has has shown the need for us to understand what drives online participants to stay motivated. Psychological capital (PsyCap) is an offshoot of positive psychology and positive organizational behavior consisting of the psychological resources of hope, efficacy, resiliency and optimism (H.E.R.O). This theory offers us a deeper understanding of what motivates the individual to succeed despite all odds. Using the PsyCap as a framework, this session will share insights into the key issues that need to be addressed to provide optimal online learning for coach training.
Presenter: Cherie Carter-Scott, MCC
Session Abstract: Adult development and delivery has been taking place virtually over the past year and a half, how do we teach effectively in this environment? Presenter: Norbert Izsak, PhD, MCC
Session Abstract: As an academic and professional coach, I often find myself addressing two types of questions. Fellow scholars question me about the relevance of coaching in higher education (still a lot of people think it is too “superficial” for academia). Fellow coach practitioners want to know how a university/college training can be as practical as a business training and still be accredited by the state. As the director of Hungary’s only coach training program that is recognized by both the State’s University Accreditation Committee and ICF (ACTP), I would like to present our case study to prove that it is possible to converge ICF-accredited, high-quality and practical training with academic requirements. Join this session as we discuss the legal requirement and practical “loopholes” to providing cost-effective training that can be woven into academic requirements, as well as the challenges and opportunities that come with it.
Presenter: Luba Diasamidze, PCC
Session Abstract: In this session, Luba Diasamidze, PCC summarizes her learning from delivering coach-specific training to culturally diverse learning groups in China. This presentation provides practical suggestions, examples of activities and tools that can be used by coach educators to help coaches-in-training deepen their understanding and appreciation of cultural and language differences.
Presenter: Nicola Bunting, MCC
Session Abstract: Because of the pandemic, teams are now working in radically new and different ways. Instead of in-person check-ins, meetings and team development sessions, work is usually taking place remotely while team members work from home. Moving forward through the remainder of 2021 and into 2022, it’s clear that the ways in which teams work together have changed fundamentally. This presentation will demonstrate how team coaching needs to evolve by simultaneously considering the role and development of both the individual and the team, taking into account the new working conditions. At this moment in time, teams are in danger of losing their ability to collaborate effectively and to inspire each other, degenerating into silos and losing inspiration. How can team coaching step up to the challenge of invigorating team performance and development during this time of dramatic change and challenge? Using a combination of in-depth coaching assessments and innovative approaches to virtual team coaching, this presentation will give you an enhanced understanding and toolkit for working effectively with the new paradigms for teams in these extraordinary and challenging times.
Presenter: Alexia Vernon

You will compile a variety of activities you can easily bring into new or existing face-to-face and virtual coaching and training experiences. Plus, you will develop the mindset and core skills to be able to walk into any room, conversation, or onto any stage and speak up for yourself, the ideas and issues that matter most to you and call people to take action – regardless of the many unknowns you may encounter.
Presenter(s): Towanna Burrous, Ed.D., PCC and Jose Pinero
Keynote Abstract:With the increased demand for coaches with specialized expertise, are you ready to coach people different from you? How coaches use internal listening and not focused listening when they are uncomfortable with differences. She will also cover how coaches can increase their diversity awareness which can lead to a more diverse practice.

Session Abstract: Coaching platforms are positioning themselves firmly in our professional landscape and transforming it. They ride the advances digital technologies bring and promise. They undoubtedly offer new opportunities but they also raise many concerns. This session offers a deep dive into this new reality, exploring when and how platforms are at the service of coaches and their clients and conversely when and how they threaten to “überize” coaches and transform coaching into a mere commodity. This session is an opportunity to find our bearings in this new maze, so as to make informed decisions about collaboration with coaching platforms, to reflect on our profession as it evolves and to look into our professional future. It draws on the results of a survey conducted jointly by ICF and the ICF France, DE and UK Chapters in 2021 and on the work that the ICF France Committee on Digital/ Artificial Intelligence and Coaching has carried out since 2018.
Presenter(s): Diana Tedoldi, PCC and James Farrell, PCC
Session Abstract: Coaching in partnership with nature benefits coach, client and planet – developing health and well-being, Earth-conscious mindsets, and new action for a just and sustainable future. This session describes how coaches can unlock these benefits. Diana Tedoldi and James Farrell have evolved their work independently to incorporate nature and natural thinking in their coaching practice. Diana and James describe the context and imperative for this work, as a calling to coaches. This includes the nature and climate crises, issues of mental ill health and community disfunction and the growing interest and desire for nature-connection amongst populations ‘locked down’ in the global pandemic. Diana and James share scientific research that demonstrates the correlation between nature-connectedness and pro-environmental behavior and describe how this relates to coaching via the ICF Core Competencies. They give examples of nature-based coaching in practice, useful frameworks and approaches, and basic guidelines to enable coaches to develop confidence in working with nature. The session concludes by calling for a new vision for the future of the coaching profession, where we invite nature as co-coach to show us a regenerative and sustainable way to live on this planet “which is ours, but not ours alone” (Janine Benyus).

Generations: Working and Learning Together
Session Abstract: With five generations populating our workplaces, various organizations and industries, tensions can run high at times. However, the challenges posed by differences in values, expectations, attitudes and communication styles do not have to wreak havoc on relationships, learning and development opportunities, productivity or retention. This session’s participants will benefit from learning how to consider and take advantage of various skills and perspectives emerging in our multi-generational workplace and educational environments.

Session Abstract: What are the demands of leaders as coaches, connectors and catalysts for change? How can coaches partner with leaders to elevate critical soft skills and cultivate an innovation mindset? As the world continues to transform, leadership is evolving at an accelerated pace. Leaders who can drive change, mobilize teams and launch disruptive experiences will be at the forefront of innovation. The future of work entails: – Millennials and Generation Z professionals reshaping the workplace, creating the need to bridge understanding and communication across generations. – Hybrid environments and freelance/flexible arrangements. The upskilled leader will be able to uncover opportunities to collaborate, inspire and engage teams. – Maximizing efficiency, connection and agile decision-making across dispersed environments. – Ongoing digitalization and technological advancements that change the way we communicate, work and lead. Leaders are preparing for change; however, are they truly embracing change and shifting the way they think and operate? As we reflect back on how work has evolved, we will also take a glimpse into what lies ahead to prepare and empower leaders for the future.
Presenter: Janet Sernack, PCC
Session Abstract: In a recent McKinsey & Co. article “Beyond Coronavirus – the path to the next normal,” the author asserts that “The coronavirus is not only a health crisis of immense proportion—it’s also an imminent restructuring of the global economic order.” Innovation coaches elicit and explore the possibilities and options available to help leaders and teams create the mindset shifts necessary to transition successfully and move proactively toward an uncertain future. They can, in effect, through their generative listening, inquiring and differing skillset, support and enable leaders and teams to co-create a viable future where they create a collective narrative of hope and catalyze bold creative, inventive and innovative collective action. That enables them to safely collaborate and experiment with smart risk-taking, (and failing fast), whilst artfully mastering and safely using creative tension and cognitive dissonance as creative catalysts for effecting the transformational changes required to co-create a sustainable and equitable future for all.
Presenter(s): Charmaine Roche, AC Accredited Executive Coach and Johathan Passmore, ACC
Session Abstract: In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 25, 2020 has accelerated a visible shift in the coaching world. More specifically, it accelerated the discussion of coaching’s potential to serve social change as it relates to diversity, inclusion, equity and racial justice. This discussion is challenging the dominant western paradigms that currently underpin the coaching ecosystem and opens up a rich seam of critical, ethical debate around identity, heritage, legacy, purpose and hope. The session will draw on and discuss the outcomes of a ground-breaking global research project that points out the path to the fulfilment of this potential, if we have the courage and openness to walk it. This session will support all participants in an exploration their experiences of coaching within the dominant western paradigms embedded in coaching, given the context and timeline of its inception and development and the ways in which they can evolve their practice as an enactment of decolonializing coaching.
Presenter: Archana Shetty, ACC
Session Abstract: Automation and artificial intelligence (AI) are changing the nature of work. Since we have the advantage of foreseeing the skill shifts to come, we have an opportunity to anticipate, adjust and take advantage of the changes that accompany automation and AI adoption. Instead of shying away or ignoring the impact of automation and AI, we will look into harnessing the power of artificial and emotional intelligence and leveraging it to create amazing customer and employee experiences. As the future of work is shifting, we will look into the three tools that coaches and leaders can leverage to succeed in the digital economy by discussing three questions: 1. AI – How can AI help leaders understand the needs of digitally-savvy workers and fill the digital gap? 2. EI – How can leaders use emotional intelligence to bridge the purpose gap? 3. CI – How can leaders harness the power of collective intelligence and collaborate with partners and suppliers across the eco-system to provide world-class customers experiences? Suggestions are based on new research findings on the shifts in demand for workforce skills and how technology impacts business.

Session Abstract: In the last decade, design thinking has become an increasingly important competency in business schools, corporations and organizations of all kinds. At its core, design thinking is about tapping into the power of creativity with a diverse set of stakeholders to deliver innovative products and services. And as design thinking has been applied to business, so too can it be applied to coaching. Coaching and design can both be seen as vehicles of transformation. They bring forth new possibilities and new worlds, creations that invite us into different ways of knowing, being and doing. In this way, design thinking can be a useful methodology for coaches by offering tools for sense-making, learning, experiencing, reflecting and world-making. This talk demystifies design and design thinking methodologies, connects design thinking to the individual, team and organizational coaching and transformation; and provides tactical ways for coaches to begin using design thinking in their personal practice.

Keynote Abstract: Uncertainty is always around the corner. Recent events have made us more aware of that fact. And although it comes in different shapes and forms, from external risks to inner doubts, our individual reactions are similar: we stumble. Many coaching requests arise from the clients’ need to navigate through uncertainty with more clarity and confidence. As a coach you’ll benefit from having an advanced uncertainty structuring toolkit. I assembled those ideas throughout my 11-year emerging markets journey. They are inspired by difficult situations I faced when managing projects at McKinsey & Company, extensive research of business literature and my own coaching practice with entrepreneurs and executives in a turbulent economic environment. What’s in this session? Strategies your that clients can deploy to create clarity and act with confidence in almost any uncertainty. Questions you can ask to enable implementation of those strategies. Types of uncertainty: how to identify them and how to use them to make your client sessions more insightful. Cognitive biases people often exhibit in the face of uncertainty, and how to help your clients remain realistic in their judgement. All this in a 45-minute presentation that is meant to provide you with a plug-and-play client service toolkit for difficult situations.
Presenter: Ellen Wagner
Session Abstract: Nowadays, everyone is talking about the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion. But what does it really mean? What are blind spots and microaggressions? And why should you be aware of this topic as a coach? When it comes to diversity and inclusion, it’s imperative that we start with ourselves to create social justice. Knowledge and agency around diversity, equity and inclusion are essential to thrive and be the best coach for the diverse clients you are meeting in a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) world Join this session to learn about diversity and its dimensions and discover what you can do to create an equitable coaching practice where your clients can feel a sense of belonging and inclusion.
Presenter: D Ivan Young, MCC
Session Abstract: Transformational coaching begins and ends with how effectively you use empathy in your coaching session. If your goal as a coach is to increase your client’s self-efficacy and capacity, mastery of empathetic coaching techniques is necessary. Though coaching is systematic, it is not mechanistic. To raise your bar as a coach, you must connect with the client in meaningful and measurable ways. In this session, participants will the difference between real empathy and fake emotional intelligence, and why the former is most effective in connecting with your clients.
Presenter: Tom Krapu, PCC
Session Abstract: It is commonly understood that coaches can limit their overall impact when they “get in their own way”. This presentation will operationalize the “burden of self” underlying this phenomenon and provide specific guidance on how to stay present with your client and to know when you are not present or imposing yourself on your client. The ICF PCC Marker behaviors will be to tied directly to skills related to self management and the utilization of self in the coaching process. These skills are at the heart of the highest level of coaching skill, but understandable to any coach regardless of level of training or practice.
Presenter: Sharon Grossman, PhD
Session Abstract: Leaders, managers and professionals in high-stress industries are burning out in alarming numbers. Business owners are no exception. While the work environment can contribute to burnout symptoms, managing your mindset is crucial and can act as a buffer. This session is presented by Sharon Grossman, Ph.D., a psychologist and author of the bestselling book, “7E Solution to Burnout.” The session will address the three biggest mindsets that lead to burnout, along with the three mental shifts to help you break out of the perpetual cycle of sabotage so you can stop obsessing over details, worrying about possible failures and striving so hard that you run out of steam. This can be a helpful framework for yourself as well as for clients in your coaching practice.
Presenter: Judit Chrenóczy-Nagy, PCC
Session Abstract: Have you ever felt trapped during a coaching process or finished the session with ambivalent feelings about your professional contribution as a coach? In such cases you probably analyze your competencies first, focus on what could have been done differently. However, when taking a closer look at the situation, you might discover an underlying ethical dilemma that kept you from reacting more appropriately. Ethics is an essential and fundamental part of impactful, professional coaching. Identifying your (sometimes hidden) ethical dilemmas enables you to create a more sound solution and to react in a more competent manner with a high level of integrity. During this session, you will learn how to detect and handle the ethical aspect of a given situation. You will see that in most cases there is no singular obvious or correct solution, but rather several good and better ones.
Presenter: Jean-Francois Cousin, MCC
Session Abstract: At a deep level, this session is about empowering coaches to help steer the world away from the profound crises created by how we are and how we think. Coaches must energize, inspire and stretch their clients at very deep levels so that they can thrive in more challenging environments. Coaches must also develop their reasoning and intuition beyond boundaries defined by their education and cultural, social and moral codes in order to enable clients to re-invent their way of being and their way forward. Join this session to find out how to gain an artists’ depth of presence when you coach, unleash more of your creative spirit and nurture a way of being that deeply inspires and enables clients to positively re-invent their own way of being and their way forward. We will discuss and share: – How to enlarge the size of your “world” so that you offer your clients more room for exploration – How to be a “white blank canvas” to stimulate your clients’ creativity – Why you should “look into your darkness to find your uniqueness,” as Lady Gaga once said. Plus: enjoy special appearances by Pablo Picasso and Lady Gaga, and jewels of wisdom from Eastern and Western philosophers!
Presenter: Clare Norman, PCC
Session Abstract: We’ve learned so much in our lifetimes – from parents, teachers, peers, work, managers, families. But when it comes to coaching, that prior learning is not always useful. We may need to unlearn some mindsets and skillsets in order to make way for new ones that enable us and our clients to think in new ways. When you join this session, be prepared to challenge your blind spots, question your mindset and skill set and ultimately free yourself from what’s holding you back from becoming a better coach.
Presenter: Maria Glenn, PCC
Session Abstract: For the majority of professional coaches, coaching isn’t what we do, it’s the essence of who we are and how we show up in every aspect of our lives. The best coaches in the industry “walk their talk” and approach every interaction as an opportunity to have a coaching conversation, regardless of the context. But this is not as easy as it sounds. This process begins and ends with “doing the work to do the work.” In this session we will explore foundations for creating a heart-led coaching presence as it aligns with the crucial competency of embodying a coaching mindset. We will experience the nuances of intentions versus goals and feel the difference when action is derived from purpose. We will share mindfulness practices that create space, clarity and discernment. What would happen if we could normalize spirit and coach to each goal, with soul? Spoiler Alert: The whole world would be transformed!
Presenter: Tyla Fowler, PCC
Session Abstract: One of the biggest challenges in coaching today is getting clients out of their heads and into their bodies. Our highest functioning clients? They’re already powerfully versed in using their analytical and strategic brain to create impact. And our clients that are getting stuck? Their thinking brain is often the thing that’s getting in the way of them having the life they want. Regardless of where our clients are, our job as next-level coaches is to support them in accessing next-level wisdom, which often resides in the unexplored depths of the physical body. This session will empower you to blend mindfulness techniques, grounding practices, and your own embodied knowing to invite clients deeper into themselves. From noticing the subtle emotional shifts during coaching conversations and relying on your own intuition to getting curious and playful in the questions you ask and the reflections you offer, you will walk away with all the tools you need to take coaching from a cerebral experience to a full-body journey that has clients meeting themselves and the world in radical new ways.
Presenter: Laura Crawshaw, Ph.D., BCC
Session Abstract: Abrasive leaders rub their coworkers the wrong way. These executives and professionals (including physicians and attorneys) who engage in interpersonally aggressive behavior (also known as workplace bullying) exact a high price in terms of both employee emotional distress and costs to the organization. At the same time, employers feel helpless to intervene, especially when dealing with an abrasive leader whose technical expertise is of critical importance to the organization.
Executive coaches are perfectly positioned to offer a solution to workplace bullying through the specialty practice of coaching abrasive leaders. Participants in this session will learn of a coaching model that incorporates action research and concepts derived from evolutionary psychology, emotional intelligence theory and the research of Laura A. Crawshaw, Ph.D. Participants will gain insight into why bosses bully, how to distinguish an abrasive leader from other types (e.g. adequate, irritating, avoidant and aberrant executives) and how to quickly establish a trusting coaching alliance. The presentation will cover specific techniques to overcome characteristic client defensiveness, develop awareness and help abrasive leaders relinquish their destructive management styles in favor of interpersonally-productive strategies. Even coaches who elect not to coach abrasive executives will benefit from learning how to defuse client defensiveness encountered with non-abrasive clients.
Presenter(s): Lily Seto, PCC, Accredited Supervisor and Tracy Sinclair
Session Abstract: Have you ever left a coaching session wondering if you could have done something better? Or felt that there might have been an ethical dilemma and you are not sure what to do with it? Or you were triggered by something that was said? Or feeling exhausted from being in lockdown and not having access to your usual ways to resource yourself? The ICF Core Competency #2: Embodies a Coaching Mindset encourages coaches to develop “…an ongoing reflective practice to enhance one’s coaching”. One reflective practice is coaching supervision, which ICF defines as follows: “Coaching Supervision is the interaction that occurs when a coach periodically brings his or her coaching work experiences to a coaching supervisor in order to engage in reflective dialogue and collaborative learning for the development and benefit of the coach and his or her clients.” In this pre-recorded webinar, we will explore Coaching SuperVision as a way to develop yourself as a coach and how it differs from Mentor Coaching. Curious? As you watch this recording with us, you will have an opportunity to ask questions through the chatbox feature throughout the session.

Keynote Abstract: When working in an organization, it is important to keep in mind the most important funding mechanism for company growth is the learning and growth of the people. But somehow jobs muffle people’s innate desire to learn––they find themselves bored, stagnant, or simply wanting more at work. In this keynote, you will learn about the S Curve of Learning™, a model for smart growth and how to leverage this model to advance your coaching within organizations. We will address sticky coaching questions like, why, despite the desire to grow, can it be so difficult to start? What does it take to gain and maintain momentum once people start? And finally, why do people outgrow things so quickly? The answers to these questions prepare you to identify where each person, including yourself and your clients, is in his/her growth. When you know where people are on their S Curves, you can help and support them as they move forward. Grow yourself to coach your clients to grow their company. That’s smart growth.
Presenter: Ana Pliopas, MCC
Session Abstract: This session deepens the understanding of the complexities embedded in executive coaching and proposes a model to help coaches and human resources professionals deal with potential conflicting interests between the client and the organization. I present results of a grounded theory research, conducted consistently with social constructionism. Data were obtained with conversations with 45 people, including 16 clients, 15 coaches and 14 professionals of human resources administration. As result of the study, the triangular and dyadic relationships present in executive coaching were re-signified, suggesting that the relationships between the different actors in executive coaching have different dynamics and relevance. The relationship between the coach and client is fundamental, and the maintenance of the confidentiality of the coaching sessions content is essential for preserving that relationship. Despite the importance of such a relationship, the organization affects the relationship between the client and the coach because it is expected that coach and client will also comply with the interest of the organization.
Presenter(s): Geoff Hinsley and Kathleen Curran, PhD, ACC
Session Abstract: You know how sometimes you (or other leaders or clients) struggle because you feel you’re missing critical information needed to make a good decision? This leads to sub-par or disastrous decisions that can cost time and money, creative opportunities, or sometimes even lives. This session explores the phenomenon of “I Don’t Know-Ness” (IDKN), the moment you or a leader runs into in that uncharted territory and wonders how to navigate. You will learn how to recognize IDKN triggers, what your typical knee-jerk response is and how to create a better way forward.
Presenter(s): Flame Schoeder, MCC and Donna King, ACC
Session Abstract: Join us to learn a simple and effective coaching mindset that will help you break through the “people side” of leadership into your genuine leadership genius. We will teach you how to raise the bar in your leadership by recognizing the difference between people’s instincts (which are powerful, but not always helpful) and their innate longing to create, collaborate and contribute. When these primal instincts are active, they often give us tunnel vision. In that “tunnel of personality,” you have a lot of energy but you can’t see the whole situation. At work, this causes bottlenecks, arguments, extra work and disengagement. In this session, you will learn five surprisingly simple ways to soothe the primal fight, flight or freeze instincts so that you can make room for more of what you want at work—motivation, creativity, inclusion, sustainability and innovative problem solving (among other meaningful results). Once the instinctual energy is soothed, it is free to be used by the human spirit! You’ll also learn three ways to activate the unique human spirit in each person you lead, as well as a set of insightful coaching questions to evoke their genius-level contribution.
Presenter: Kevin Campbell, ACC
Session Abstract: Do your leaders and managers see employee engagement as a survey or a strategy? Do you want your managers and leaders to turn employee feedback and performance review conversations into meaningful action and growth? Unconscious bias, resistance to feedback and organizational politics can make it challenging to measure performance and act on survey results. A lack of coaching skills makes developing performance even harder. However, with the right coaching skills, even new managers can be equipped to have performance and engagement conversations that drive business performance while being fair and motivating for the employee.
Presenter(s): Wataru Kurimoto, MCC and Angie Tong, ACC
Session Abstract:How powerful would it be if we could create organizations that drive their own changes before they are forced to change? COACH A is a coaching firm that coaches the dynamic activity of increasing the number of leaders within organizations who will create the future success of the organization. With 100 in-house coaches, COACH A works in tandem with project sponsors to spread the sphere of influence, to as many as 500 leaders simultaneously. The focus is to create a chain of “empowered” leaders within organizations who can serve as the foundation for change; leaders who have chosen to become agents of change themselves. In this session, you will learn about the unique Systemic Team Coaching model that enables the above impact, through examples of its application to actual client companies. You will walk away with new insights and ideas for what you can do as coaches to tie coaching to the sustainable success of the business and the transformation of the organizational culture that supports it, beyond leadership development and education itself.
Presenter: Rho Sandberg, MCC
Session Abstract: Coaches have a key role to play in building inclusive organizational cultures. However, before we can support leaders and employees to recognize and address hidden rank dynamics in the workplace, we must commit to our own learning in this complex, sensitive and potentially overwhelming frontier of change. This presentation enables coaches to reflect on themselves and their client interactions against the backdrop of power and rank dynamics. Raising our own rank awareness as coaches creates greater psychological safety for our clients, which helps us address the sense of uncertainty and sometimes fragility that prevents us from engaging in vital conversations about diversity and inclusion. In this presentation we will draw on an understanding of the systemic drivers of exclusion and marginalization, build coach awareness and identify practical coaching strategies and interventions that support cultures of inclusion. This presentation explores: the effective use of structural and social rank to identify and address systemic barriers to inclusion. the impact of marginalization and low social rank on identity and our ability to bring our whole selves to work or interpersonal encounters. the dynamics of internalized oppression, preparing you to intervene when clients turn the problem in on themselves.
Presenter: Ozlem Sarioglu, PCC
Session Abstract: Two of the biggest struggles of the remote workforce are (1) collaboration and communication and (2) loneliness. Coaching can be a remedy to these issues because it can improve communication by 42% and productivity by 39%. However, it is not always possible to scale coaching to the whole culture, due to various reasons set forth in the ICF’s 2020 Global Coaching Study. Ozlem Sarioglu, ICF Young Leader Honoree of 2019 and co-founder of the digital coaching platform SparkUs, will share the experience of scaling a coaching culture to the whole organization and the tools it takes to get there.
Presenter: Timothy Tiryaki, PCC
Session Abstract: In this session, participants will learn about executive coaching as a way of coaching for strategy, culture and influence. As coaches, it is critical we build the confidence and acumen to work with executive leaders; these are the leaders that need to own, promote and influence culture as well as cultures of coaching within organizations to help both people and entities achieve their very best. Culture Coaching focuses on unleashing organizational culture potential and offers an approach all coaches need to learn about as the missing link to executive coaching. During this session, we will review the key concepts and share insights on how a culture action plan is different than other plans and why it is extremely important in the work we do with executive leaders.
Presenter(s): Beth Zimmerman, PMP, Prosci and Laura English, ACC
Session Abstract: Does your corporate culture have “growth mindset” as one of its key tenets of success? Is investing in your employees’ career growth a strategic goal? Are you getting the most out of the talent within your organization? Do you know what your employees want and need to feel successful? In 2017, Evans Consulting (a Washington D.C.-based management consultancy) set out on a multi-year journey to create a robust program to answer the ‘how’ of the above questions by creating a Career Coach Cohort. In this session, you’ll learn how the consulting firm created a robust internal career coaching program focused on a high-touch, growth-minded and “whole person” approach. Beth Zimmerman and Laura English will share the details of the program, success factors, best practices and lessons learned. They will also describe their current efforts to scale the program using a service design approach to ensure the employee experience and ultimate success is maintained while the company continues to have aggressive growth targets.
Presenter: Lisa Downs, ACC
Session Abstract: According to a recent Willis Towers Watson report based on feedback from HR managers within 143 large organizations, 81% of them think it’s important for the business to manage employee retirements. Yet only 25% report doing so effectively. Knowledge transfer, workforce productivity and promotion of younger employees are top concerns, yet in many cases, these issues are not being addressed to the extent they need to be. Talent pipelines get clogged, younger staff leave out of frustration and those headed toward retirement don’t know what life will be like outside of the organization. But exiting the transition to retirement need not be painful when a gradual “off ramp” is provided. Attend this session to explore how you and your organization can provide retirement coaching as an employee benefit to ease one of life’s most challenging transitions. You can help employees leave with a vision for their future and goals, paving the way for successful execution of succession plans with less angst and stress for all involved. You’ll come away from this session with a retirement coaching framework you can begin to implement immediately, key program elements to consider and an action plan to move forward.

The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in coaching is going to revolutionize the way coaches approach their professional development. This session explores how AI can support coaches in self-reflection, supervision, and progress tracking. Self-reflection is vital to personal and professional growth, yet it can be time-consuming and subjective. However, with the help of AI, coaches can receive objective insights into their coaching sessions, including data on language, communication, and client reactions. The aim of this approach is for AI to enhance rather than replace human skills and abilities. With AI’s ability to accelerate the process of self-reflection, coaches can quickly and easily analyze their sessions, identifying key moments for reflection and growth. This allows coaches to continuously improve their practices, achieve their full potential, and, most importantly, help their clients achieve theirs.

Learn to overcome your inner critic with a unique process that combines music skills and coaching principles. This session will help you reprogram your thoughts, identify negative self-talk, and create supportive thoughts. This method is effective and sustainable because every phase of the process helps the client gain a deeper understanding of their issues with compassion. Many people use affirmations to reprogram their minds, but often they don’t succeed because the affirmation they’re using isn’t tailored to their specific needs. This process involves four phases that address the root of the client’s issues and create personalized solutions and affirmations to overcome their blocks. You’ll learn how affirming with compassion can help you silence your inner critic and gain powerful insights to help you move forward.

As angst and uncertainty increase around the world, leaders are called to prioritize well-being. They must hold intimate, unfamiliar conversations about mental and emotional health with the people they lead, and they are responsible for integrating well-being into an organization’s performance and success metrics. Leaders must build connected, agile teams and foster a thriving culture using new work models. This well-being drive is a transformative shift, one which leaders are often not ready, willing, or able to do. Why? Because, at its core, this shift asks leaders to redefine who they are and how and why they lead. As coaches, are we ready to support this shift? Are we exemplifying this shift ourselves?
In this session, you will discover how a focus on well-being can create thriving leaders and organizations. Together we will explore how a global well-being revolution is reshaping what it means to lead, and the instrumental role coaches and the coaching industry play in advancing a leadership driven by well-being for the benefit of business, the planet, and humankind.
We will also draw on insights gained from a study of leadership across three health related industries: the global wellness economy, health care and pharma, and human potential (including coaching). According to the study, globally, these leaders are languishing or struggling. These results show that there’s great potential for the coaching industry to enhance their own thriving, and as a result increase our impact on the leaders and organizations we support.
