The ICF Young Leader Award celebrates coach practitioners under the age of 40 who are poised to lead ICF and the coaching profession into the future. Honorees embody the core values of ICF and represent a diverse community of emerging thought leaders. This year, ICF celebrated the first class of Young Leader Award honorees during the 2018 ICF Midwest Region Coaches Conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. In the coming weeks, we will profile each of this year’s honorees here on Coaching World.

Shweta Handa-Gupta, MCC (India), is the co-founder of QuadraBrain® Transformation Solutions, which specializes in neuro-accelerated interventions to facilitate change leadership success and enable top team alignment. Shweta got her start in coaching after attending a Coaching and Mentoring Training Program during her time working at IBM.

“My motivation to join the coaching profession was a paced and measured shift with a growing realization of the power of coaching,” said Shweta.

Shweta explained that when she learned about coaching she knew she could contribute more.

“The bonds I built as a coach and the results I created as a coach soon surpassed the outcomes I could create as a directive CEO. I also realized that I could make a difference to the coaching community and ecosystem by generating visibility and expanding business opportunities. That inspired me to finally quit my job. The lure of being able to set up a business that would generate profit with a purpose and leave behind a larger impact allowed me to finally give up the comfort of a leadership position and salary at a relatively young age,” said Shweta.

Shweta’s advice for other young coaches is simple: Trust the process and never stop learning.

“Take continuous professional development very seriously. Coach supervision or mentoring also helps you continuously hone your coaching skills. Ask yourself, ‘What might I enable with my coaching skills? How might I plan to use my coaching skills?’” said Shweta.

In addition to being a business leader and innovator in India, Shweta sees herself as an advocate for ICF. She hopes that her role as a young leader will contribute to the development of coaching through investing in research, creating opportunities and promoting greater awareness and understanding of coaching.
