It’s Never Too Early — Tips for Professional Development and Credential Renewal Planning

ICF Credentials are valid for three years following the award date or the date of the last renewal. It’s never too early to create a professional development plan for your next credential renewal cycle!

What is Resource Development?
Continuing Coach Education (CCE) consists of Core Competency (CC) and/or Resource Development (RD) units. It is often easy to find courses approved for Core Competency CCE units, but understanding Resource Development units and what qualifies for them can be confusing.

Resource Development units recognize any learning that falls outside of the ICF Core Competencies but still contributes to a coach’s professional development through their coaching skills, knowledge or business. Some examples of professional development activities that qualify for RD units include research, reading books or articles, completing an on-demand course without learning checks, completing webinars or workshops on how to build your coaching business, etc. Up to 16 hours of Resource Development CCEs can be submitted toward a credential renewal application.
