To celebrate International Coaching Week (ICW) 2018, the ICF Malaysia Chapter successfully partnered with 10 local organizations to share coaching’s positive impact on life and work experiences. Participants gained insight into and value from working with professional coaches.

The one-of-a-kind engaging week comprised of public coaching awareness talks, workshops and one-to-one experience coaching demo sessions in multiple well-known settings.

The partnerships included:

  • EcoKnights
  • Expertise Resources Association (ERA)
  • Maclean Services
  • Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC)
  • Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO)
  • Mind Space Community Centre
  • Public Service Department (JPA)
  • Settlements at Works, Penang
  • Taylor’s University
  • University of Malaya

The theme of our Chapter’s ICW 2018 celebration was “Engage, Empower, Enrich.” It was with tremendous pleasure that a total of 48 volunteer coaches from various backgrounds offered a variety of interactive activities and pro bono services. Hence, a great team was formed alongside our Chapter’s ICW committee, driving ICW 2018 to be a successful and memorable event.

This year, in addition to educating on ICW, ICF Global and the ICF Malaysia Chapter, coaches were also given the opportunity to lead or co-lead sessions about what coaching is, the ICF Core Competencies and coaching skills. For example, those at Expertise Resources Association, a resource center to pool the expertise, talents, skills and experiences of retired or retiring professionals, were introduced to what coaching is. Leaders at the Malaysia Productivity Corporation and those at Mindscape Community learned about coaching awareness and were able to experience one-to-one coaching. A full day coaching workshop was conducted with the Women’s Aid Organization to help them add value to their daily contributions to society.

The closing ceremony was held at Taylor’s University to acknowledge the participating organizations and to show appreciation to volunteer coaches for their contributions of precious time to engage with various audiences about coaching with passion. A guest speaker, Alvin Ung, was invited to speak on coaching with purpose and impact.

Feedback Summary

Feedback obtained from each coaching session was collected accordingly, and it is with great pleasure to share we obtained an overall score of 8.37 over 10 for this ICW event.

We received much positive feedback from individual participants and participating organisations, especially from those who were exposed to coaching for the first time. All in all, it was a very encouraging event for most of the participants and this International Coaching Week has transformed their perception on the use of coaching in all aspects of life. Some of the comments include: “I hope more people know about the ICF & celebrate ICW every year.” “It helps [me] to bring clarity in the grey areas and identify plans of actions.” “It’s given me new perspective in life.”
