Upgrading a Credential
Advancing your ICF credential is an investment in YOU. Your credential has already made an incredible impact on your career, and by upgrading to the next level, you’ll unlock new opportunities, reach more clients, and transform lives — including your own.
Why Wait?
If you apply for a higher-level credential within one year of your current credential’s expiration date, your current credential status will be extended for up to 12 months while your new application is reviewed. This eliminates the need for a separate renewal application or fees, letting you focus entirely on your upgrade. (Get the full details in the Credential Renewal Candidate Guide.)
Ready to Level Up?
A new credential level = a new credential application. Upgrading to a higher credential cannot be done through the renewal application. But don’t worry, getting started is easy.
Simply complete the Credential Path Survey. This quick survey will ask about your education and coaching experience. Based on your answers, you’ll find out which credential level(s) you qualify for and the most straightforward application path for you. Once you've completed the survey, you’ll also get direct access to the application requirements and the link to start your application.
Renewing a Lapsed Credential or Certification
Missed your renewal deadline? Don’t worry — you still have options to get back on track.
You have a two-month grace period after your credential or certification’s expiration date to submit your renewal application without penalty. If you’re unable to renew during this grace period, your credential or certification will lapse. But there’s still time! You’ll have an additional 10 months to renew by providing extra CCE credits for each lapsed month.
Don’t let a missed deadline hold you back. Start your renewal today to stay on track!
Renewing a Lapsed Certification or Credential
If you missed both your renewal deadline and the two-month grace period, you still have 10 months to renew your credential or certification. During this time, an additional 1.2 CCE credits will be required for each month your credential or certification has lapsed. Please review the Credential Renewal Guide for more information.
After 12 months, your credential is considered fully expired. At that point, you must submit a new credential application to reinstate your ICF credential or certification, rather than completing a renewal application.
Has Your Credential or Certification Fully Expired?
If it’s been more than 12 months since your credential or certification expired, you will have to start the application process over again. Here’s your first step to reapplying.
For ACC, PCC, or MCC
Start by completing the Credential Path Survey to determine which credential level(s) you qualify for, guide you toward the simplest application path, and get the link to your new application.
For ACTC
To begin your ACTC application, you’ll want to complete the ACTC survey to find the application path that best suits you.
