Before applying, it's helpful to understand how this coaching specialization complements your ICF credential and fits within the broader ICF credentialing framework.

Your ICF credential — ACC, PCC, or MCC — recognizes your coaching competence. The MCS builds on that foundation by validating specialized preparation to support the development of other coaches. Eligibility for Mentor Coaching Specialization

The ICF Mentor Coach Specialization builds on an established coaching foundation. Before pursuing the MCS, you'll need an active ICF credential and specialized education aligned with ICF mentor coaching standards.

To earn the MCS, you must:

  • Hold an active PCC, MCC, or renewed ACC credential.
  • Complete mentor coaching education aligned with the ICF Mentor Coaching Competencies.
  • Meet the required synchronous learning requirements.
  • Complete the required ICF evaluation training for your specialization level(s).

The MCS is available at the ACC, PCC, and MCC levels, allowing you to support credential applicants at any or all corresponding credential levels you earn.

Who's It For?You have:
  • A current PCC, MCC, or renewed ACC credential. Completed 41 hours of mentor coaching training aligned to the ICF Mentor Coaching Competencies, with at least 50% completed through synchronous learning. 
  • Completed applicable coaching skills evaluation training courses (ACC BARS, PCC Markers, MCC BARS) for the specific level(s) of MCS for which you are applying. (Note: these trainings can count toward educational requirements as asynchronous learning.)
You have:
  • A current PCC, MCC, or renewed ACC credential. 
  • Completed 10 hours of mentor coaching education aligned to the ICF Mentor Coaching Competencies. </li> 
  • Mentored 5+ mentor coaching clients who earned a new ICF credential in the past 3 years or mentor coached 5 clients within an ICF Level 1, 2, or 3 program in the past 3 years. (It can be a combination of the two as needed.) 
  • Completed applicable coaching skills evaluation training courses (ACC BARS, PCC Markers, MCC BARS) for the specific level(s) of MCS for which you are applying. (Note: these trainings do not count towards your 10 hours of mentor coaching education.) 
What Documentation Is Required for Your Application?
  • Certificates of completion for mentor coaching education.  
  • Transcript showing completion of applicable coaching skills evaluation training courses (ACC BARS, PCC Markers, MCC BARS) for the specific level(s) of MCS for which you are applying.  Supporting curriculum documentation for non-ICF-accredited education, if applicable.
  • Certificates of completion for mentor coaching education.   
  • Supporting curriculum documentation for non-ICF-accredited education, if applicable.    
  • A letter of attestation from an ICF accredited Level 1, 2, or 3 program for any students you have mentored in the past three years. For mentor coaching clients who have earned an ICF credential in the past three years and who listed you as a mentor coach, no supporting documentation is required (ICF staff will confirm this upon recieving your application).
