It recognizes professionals who have completed advanced coaching supervision education aligned with the ICF Coaching Supervision Competencies and demonstrates their commitment to ethical, reflective, and high-quality supervision.

More importantly, it provides confidence. When coaches seek supervision, the CSS signals that a supervisor has completed specialized preparation to support coaches in navigating complexity, strengthening ethical practice, and continuing their professional growth.

Who Should Apply for the CSS?

The Coaching Supervisor Specialization is intended for experienced coaches who want to demonstrate their expertise through a globally recognized specialization.

• Currently provide coaching supervision.
• Plan to supervise ACTC applicants.

• Have completed coaching supervision education aligned with the ICF Coaching Supervision Competencies.
• Want to distinguish your supervision practice through an internationally recognized specialization.

Eligibility Requirements

To earn the CSS and be listed in the Coaching Supervisor Registry, you must:

• Hold an active PCC or MCC credential.*
• Complete at least 41 hours of coaching supervision education, with at least 50% of that being synchronous learning.
• Demonstrate education aligned with the ICF Coaching Supervision Competencies, including:
  • Ethical guidance.
  • Supportive learning environments.
  • Reflective practice.
  • Client and practitioner development.
  • Group supervision dynamics.

If you supervise individuals pursuing or maintaining the Advanced Certification in Team Coaching (ACTC), you must also hold the ACTC or team coaching credential from another recognized professional body.

*Applicants who hold advanced coaching credentials or accreditations (senior or master levels) from recognized professional bodies such as EMCC or AC may also be eligible to apply. Please contact support@coachingfederation.org for more details.

What Education Counts?

Eligible education includes structured learning experiences aligned with the ICF Coaching Supervision Competencies.

Education may include coaching supervision programs offered by ICF-accredited or non-accredited providers, provided the curriculum clearly demonstrates alignment with the competencies.

For non-ICF-accredited education, applicants should be prepared to submit supporting curriculum documentation during the application process.

Prepare and Submit Your Application

The CSS has one straightforward application pathway.

Before you begin your application, gather:

• Certificates documenting completion of coaching supervision education.
• Supporting curriculum documentation for non-ICF-accredited education, if applicable.

Once you start your application, it will automatically save so you can return to it later as needed. Once you submit, you can monitor your application status through your ICF profile.

Non-Member Price: $125 USD

Standard Pricing (Beginning April 2027)
ICF Member Price: $125 USD
Non-Member Price: $200 USD

Review Timeline

Applications are generally reviewed within 4–8 weeks.

Once approved, you’ll receive:

• Email confirmation of your approval.
• An invitation from Credly to claim your digital badge.
• Inclusion in the Coaching Supervisor Registry when it launches.

If Additional Information Is Needed

If your application materials are incomplete or require clarification, your application will move into an “Additional Information Needed” status, and you’ll get an email.

Examples may include:

• Education documentation that does not clearly align with the ICF Coaching Supervision Competencies.
• Documentation that does not include education hours or dates of completion.
• Missing curriculum documentation for non-accredited coaching supervision education.

Your application will not automatically be denied. Instead, you will receive instructions about the information needed to continue processing your application. You can find this in the email that will be sent to you as well as within your application.

During this period, the application review process is paused and could cause delays in the total review time.

Renewing Your CSS

The Coaching Supervisor Specialization is valid for three years.

To renew, you’ll complete 10 hours of coaching supervision professional development aligned with the ICF Coaching Supervision Competencies. At least 5 of those hours must consist of receiving coaching supervision from a qualified supervisor.

These renewal requirements reinforce ongoing reflective practice and continued professional growth.

ICF Member Price: $100 USD
Non-Member Price: $200 USD

Refund Policy

Application fees are non-refundable once submitted. In the event of a medical or personal emergency, ICF Credentials and Standards will consider a refund minus a $50 USD administrative fee if received within 15 business days of the application submission date along with supporting documentation regarding the nature of the emergency. ICF retains sole and reasonable discretion in the granting of a refund under the Credential Refund Policy and may require the applicant to provide additional documentation to support their request.
