Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is committed to creating healthy communities, starting with a healthy organization. In 2018, VCH launched a professional coaching program to strengthen leadership, support cultural transformation, and invest in its people. Prompted by survey insights showing a need for enhanced leadership development, the program was designed to align with VCH’s values and build capacity from the inside out.
With strong support from executive leadership, the program offers one-on-one and team coaching to leaders and staff, helping to build skills in communication, change leadership, and self-awareness. Coaching sessions are structured, confidential, and guided by clear goals and ethical standards. The program has already reached a significant portion of the organization, leading to improved morale, stronger team collaboration, and measurable increases in leadership effectiveness and employee engagement.
Even during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, coaching remained a vital resource, supporting leaders in real time as they adapted and cared for others. VCH continues to invest in this work as a long-term strategy to attract, engage, and retain top talent while delivering exceptional care.
