ICF Thought Leadership Institute Board of Directors
The ICF Thought Leadership Institute Board of Directors is a forward-focused think tank of visionaries and a catalyst for global change in the world of coaching. This group of individuals asks how they can push the boundaries of coaching, looking for the next breakthrough, the unexplored territory in coaching science and practice. Our board members are about transformation — weaving a tapestry of knowledge that is as colorful as it is groundbreaking.
Serving on this board provides the opportunity to learn from experts in various fields, embrace leadership roles, and, most importantly, leave a lasting mark on the coaching profession.

Requirements
To be eligible to serve on the ICF Thought Leadership Institute Board of Directors, you must meet the following requirements:
- A deep investment in advancing the coaching profession and exploring its future potential.
- Active involvement in other departments or parts of ICF is allowed, without serving as a board member on any of the other six ICF boards.
- Recognition as a thought leader in coaching or another field — academic or otherwise.
- An unaffiliated status with organizations whose values conflict with ICF.
Experience
- Proven leadership in strategic thinking and execution of strategic plans.
- Familiarity with ICF and the coaching profession is essential.
- Experience in leadership on an international scale.
- Strong ties to research or academia, with an extensive network of experts.
Competencies
- Innovation and Conceptual Thinking: Ability to think creatively and strategically.
- Entrepreneurship: Experience in bringing ideas to market.
- Cross-Disciplinary Expertise: Ability to connect and apply knowledge from different fields.
- Trend Spotting: Strong skills in identifying future trends and opportunities.
- Strong business and financial acumen.

- Expertise in relationship-building and self-management.

Board Member Expectations
As a member of the ICF Thought Leadership Institute’s Board, you’ll help shape the direction of a not-for-profit organization. In addition to fiduciary responsibilities, expect to be hands-on with committee work and strategic initiatives.
- Time Commitment: Dedicate 5-10 hours per month to ICF activities. This includes attending a monthly board meeting and participating in committee or task force work.
- Annual Meetings: Attend one in-person board meeting per year. Travel expenses will be covered.
- Term: Directors serve two-year terms and may serve up to two consecutive terms before taking a one-year break.
- Committee Participation: Be an active member or leader in at least one committee or task force.
- Strategic Contributions: Play a leadership role in advancing the organization’s strategic priorities.
- Collaboration: Engage in online board discussions, and leverage your personal network to support organizational goals.
