ICF Coaching in Organizations Board of Directors

The ICF Coaching in Organizations Board of Directors is a body of no more than seven elected individuals who guide our efforts to transform the way people and teams work.

The Board of Directors:

  • Steers strategic direction.
  • Creates annual plans and budgets.
  • Implements operational policies and procedures.
  • Ensures sufficient financial and human capital to maximize success.
  • Recruits and develops qualified board members.
  • Oversees ICF Coaching in Organization’s performance and achievement of its goals and objectives.

Positions on the Board of Directors

In addition to director roles, the ICF Coaching in Organizations Board of Directors includes the following officer positions:

  • Chair: Serving as the chief elected officer who presides at all meetings of the Board and performs all duties assigned under the bylaws or assigned by the Board of Directors.
  • Vice Chair: Presides at all meetings of the Board of Directors in the absence of the Chair and carries out all duties assigned by the bylaws, the Chair, and/or the Board of Directors.
  • Secretary/Treasurer: Ensures all notices are duly given in accordance with the bylaws or as required by law; and in general performs all duties incident to the office of Secretary/Treasurer and such other duties as from time to time may be assigned by the Chair of the Board of Directors.

No board member can serve more than two subsequent terms. These terms were established to balance board continuity while providing community members opportunities to bring new ideas and perspectives to the board.

Officer roles are one-year terms, and individuals cannot serve more than two consecutive one-year terms in the same office.

Nomination and Election Process

The formal recruitment and selection process for the ICF Coaching in Organizations Board of Directors runs from July through October each year, depending on whether any seats are available. The process is overseen by the independent ICF Coaching in Organizations Nominating Committee.

The Nominating Committee seeks candidates, often from member organizations, and evaluates each application received. After a few rounds of interviews with select candidates, the Nominating Committee presents a final slate of nominees to the current Board.  Once approved, new members are officially welcomed, and all other finalists are notified.

Requirements

Serving on the ICF Coaching in Organizations Board of Directors is a great way to give back to your community, expand your network, and grow professionally.

In addition to the requirements listed below, the Board strives to represent ICF Coaching in Organizations' diverse membership, including demographics, sectors, geography, and specific expertise.

  • Must be employed by a member organization in good standing or from a non-member organization that qualifies for membership.*
  • Must hold a director, vice president, or C-level position within their organization.
  • Should lead or sponsor coaching within their organization.

If an acting board member no longer meets these qualifications, they lose eligibility, and their seat will become open.

Please note: ICF Coaching in Organizations membership is not available for companies that employ coaches as consultants, trainers, facilitators, professors, teachers, or similar roles where the primary purpose of employing, contracting with, or retaining such persons is to provide external third parties with coaching education or coaching services.

Commitments

  • Be available to serve a two-year term (with maximum of two terms if you choose). If filling a vacant position, you would complete the open term and may be eligible for an additional two-year term.
  • Must attend at least three board meetings each year. There are typically five online board meetings per year, with the duration each 1-2 hours long. In addition, there is one in-person board meeting held each year at a location decided in conjunction with other ICF family organizations.

Desired Experience

  • Experienced business leaders interested in shaping the future of coaching within organizations and supporting this family organization within the ICF ecosystem. Expertise in sales and marketing, finance, operations, human resources, and/or information technology.
