A Growing Global Profession with a Bright Future

Coaching today is one of the fastest-growing, most globally influential helping professions — and new data shows just how rapidly that influence is expanding. The 2025 ICF Global Coaching Study reported that the coaching industry generated more than $5.34 billion USD in total annual revenue to the global economy in the last year — an increase of 17% since the 2023 report — reflecting that the industry’s rapid growth continues. Further, the study showed that 59% of coaches expect an increase in their annual revenue in the next year, and 60% of coaches expect their growth to be fueled by new clients.

I am happy to confirm this optimism is well founded.

Over the course of 2025, we celebrated ICF’s 30th anniversary together, and as we did so, this community shared so many stories of inspiration and excellence. We also looked back at key moments how ICF has supported coaching’s growth all around the globe.

Looking ahead to our next 30 years and beyond, the future of coaching is bright.

Rising Demand in Emerging Regions

One clear sign that coaching’s future is strong is that the industry is stable and established in many regions of the world, and its greatest growth is occurring in emerging regions where coaching is just beginning to be implemented. This includes regions such as the United Arab Emirates, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Asia. As much as 60% of coaches in the Middle East and Africa have seen an increase in demand in the last 12 months, and in Asia, 53% reported the same, according to the 2025 study.

At ICF, we are actively fostering relationships within these regions — and many of you have been supporting this work. Through these efforts, I have seen up close the ways in which early adopters are serving as shining beacons that inspire others in the region to give coaching a try.

For example, one of my trips this year took me to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, where I was inspired by what organizations are achieving in collaboration with our coaching professionals.

Coaching cultures at organizations like the Saudi Food and Drug Administration, Naseej, the Dubai Airports, and more have all been growing after experiencing the immense benefits of coaching.

As others see the successful adoption of coaching and its transformational power, coaching and its benefits become better understood — and in higher demand. Many of the organizations I met with while I was there were eager to discuss how coaching has transformed their work and empowered their employees. I’m so excited to see how coaching can further support growth and development in the GCC, as well as other regions around the world.

Leading With Coaching Excellence

ICF has always been proud to uphold the world standard of the industry. Investing in accredited training and credentialing and adhering to science-backed coaching practices means ICF coaches — you — get results with your clients. Big ones.

In the 2025 Global Coaching Study, 43% of respondents said they pursue ongoing coaching education to grow their business, and 73% said their clients expect a coach to be credentialed or certified. These credentials can be a launch pad to amazing opportunities, while also equipping coaches with the skills to best serve their clients.

The stories that come from many coaching engagements are nothing short of transformative. I know because every year I am lucky enough to review many of the stories that you share with us for programs including the ICF Foundation’s Ignite program, the ICF Coaching Impact Awards, and Waves of Change, among others.

These stories highlight best-in-class coaching in action, all over the world, where coaching is making incredible things possible, for example:

  • Intel’s coaching culture has accelerated promotions for leadership by 91%.
  • Life in Bloom, a nonprofit in Kenya, has integrated coaching to make community leaders partners in protecting women and children from human trafficking and sexual abuse in Kenya.
  • Volunteer coaches have supported individuals escaping war zones to help them reimagine new lives as they rebuild.

This is what coaching excellence looks like. With so many of these inspiring stories being raised every year, the momentum is sure to continue.

If this inspires you as much as it inspires me, join our ICF community, explore learning opportunities, or join an Ignite initiative to advance your own coaching excellence and support your colleagues.

And getting connected to a coaching community is a great way to grow your skills while building your network. You can find your local chapter or get involved with Ignite on ICF’s website.

Jumping into the Future’s Growth

As coaching expands into new regions and new sectors, the next 30 years will belong to the coaches who embrace curiosity, continuous learning, and evidence-based practice. We just finished celebrating our 30th anniversary, and now we are looking ahead to the next 30 years and beyond. When I look to that future, I know it is bright. There is so much opportunity to further accelerate coaching’s growth in emerging and established regions and to continue ensuring our coaches deliver professional excellence. While there will certainly be challenges, I know our community is capable of adapting, growing, and empowering others.

The future is full of potential — and no one is better at tapping into that potential than coaches.
