August 27, 2025 — ICF is piloting a new exam experience for MCC and PCC candidates that reflects the evolving coaching landscape. This updated format incorporates the revised Core Competencies and is grounded in fairness and clarity, offering a more accessible path to credentialing.
Built with direct input from candidates and practicing coaches, the updated exam blends knowledge-based and situational judgment questions. This approach reduces cognitive load and reading fatigue by presenting fewer dense scenarios and clearer formats.
The ICF Credentialing Exam Pilot begins December 2 for MCC and PCC candidates.*
Participants will:
- Help shape the future of coaching credentials.
- Gain exclusive access to a free course package to grow their coaching skills, worth three Continuing Coaching Education credits.
- Receive one free exam retake (if needed).
All pilot participants will fully meet credentialing requirements; however, exam results will be delayed up to several months to allow for essential data analysis of the new exam items.
Key updates in the pilot exam:
- Incorporates the updated ICF Core Competencies and Code of Ethics.
- Adds knowledge-based multiple-choice questions alongside situational judgment questions, improving clarity and reducing mental fatigue.
Help us define the next era of coaching excellence — and be part of the change.
*All PCC and MCC candidates will receive further communication about signing up for the exam as they move through the application process.
