The ICF Coach Training Global Board of Directors is comprised of expert and industry leaders whose commitment, participation and leadership help move the coaching profession forward. As volunteer leaders, they play a critical role in ensuring that ICF Coach Training serves as the global leader for coach training program accreditation.

  • Why Serve on the Board of Directors?

    Envisioning a global hub for coach training program accreditation and standards, ICF Coach Training’s mission is to lead the way in setting the standard for excellence in coaching training and education and advancing the training of coaches. 

  • Who Are We Looking For?

    ICF Coach Training is looking for individuals from diverse backgrounds, and with varied skill sets, perspectives and voices to help ICF Coach Training fulfill its strategic vision. Individuals who are inspired by our mission should apply. We are looking for individuals who are motivated to contribute their expertise to grow ICF Coach Training’s capacity and impact. 

  • What Are We Looking For?

    ICF Coach Training is currently in year two of its three-year Strategic Plan (FY2021 – FY2023).  There will be at least (2) two open positions for the ICF Coach Training Board of Directors starting in January 2022. We are looking for individuals who are dedicated to excellence in coach training and education. 

  • Eligibility Requirements

    To be eligible to serve on the board, please review the following requirements:

    Board Criteria

    1. We begin with candidates who have a passion for the future of coaching and in looking for ways to have coaching education contribute to leading the future of coaching. 
    2. Directors may be active (but not a board member) in one of the ICF Family Organizations or a member of the public at large. 
    3. Experience with and understanding of accreditation standards in coaching or in other areas. 


    1. Significant involvement and proven leadership in strategic thinking and execution. 
    2. Knowledge of and experience with ICF and/or coaching.
    3. Experience and influence in policy making. 
    4. Experience as governance board of directors. 
    5. Experience in accreditation or with accreditation bodies. 
    6. Experience in the principles of instructional design. 
    7. Demonstrated global leadership experience. 
    8. Financial acumen. 


    1. Ability to inspire program engagement in alignment with ICF Coach Training’s strategic goals.
    2. Conceptual thinking. 
    3. Skillful conflict management. 
    4. Creativity and innovation. 
    5. Ability to connect and leverage different fields of knowledge.

  • Board Member Expectations

    ICF Coach Training’s Board of Directors is a governance board. We expect board members to have the capacity to think and act as oversight and be future-oriented. It is important that all members collaborate well and engage in productive dialog. All members will be expected to commit to 3-5 hours of one-off and scheduled board meetings / working sessions per month.

    ICF Coach Training board members are expected to attend one (1) annual board meeting in person (time of year and location to be determined, especially during the COVID era). ICF Coach Training shall offer each board member compensation to cover travel-related expenses to attend the annual in-person board meeting. ICF Coach Training will also cover expenses related to any necessary board retreat. Such retreats, for instance, could include a strategic planning retreat that occurs every three years, which would be in addition to the annual in-person board meeting for the year.

    Once appointed, ICF Coach Training directors serve a two-year term and not more than two consecutive terms before a one-year break in service.

Key Dates

  • Applications will be accepted through September 30, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. EDT (New York).
  • Candidates may be asked to participate in a virtual interview in the month of October 2021.
  • Candidates will be notified of their applications status by late December 2021.
